This nice lady Janie tagged me to write thirteen things about being a Mum. Well, maybe I’ll write about being a Mom, since it is the more popular term on this side of the pond! 🙂

I have been a Mom for five years now (my daughter’s birthday was a few days ago) and I still can’t believe how fast those first five went! So, I am supposed to post thirteen things about being a Mom. For the sake of getting to bed at a decent hour I think I will stick with the first ten.

  1. Responsibility – not only for the little one in my life, but also taking care of my home and my whole family.
  2. Snuggle – each morning I get into Leah’s bed and we have snuggle time. I am not sure when we started this ritual, but it is one of my favorite times of the day.
  3. Tired – around 3:30 each day I could use a half hour nap.
  4. Frustrated – when Leah doesn’t want to listen or I am at my wits end then frustration starts to take over.
  5. Sassy – the word I like to use to describe my daughter – bossy and funny are two other ones.
  6. Better myself – I do not have a college degree. This is one of my biggest regrets in life. How can I tell my daughter how important it is to get a degree if I don’t even have one? That’s why a few years back I started pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. I only take one class a semester, so it is slow going, but within the next two years or so I will be finished and can set an example for my daughter.
  7. Hope – hope that there is some sort of gun control so that the Virginia Tech shooting never happen again.
  8. Guilt – this is a big one. If you are a mother, then you already know what I am talking about.
  9. Play – when I was a kid I just LOVED playing board games. Leah is also a fan so I have been enjoying teaching her how to play some of my favorites from my childhood (remember OPERATION).
  10. Read – each night we read to Leah. She is now into chapter books. Her new favorite is Franny K. Stein.

I would love to see what comes to mind when you guys think about motherhood. Join in and post on your blog if you like!

Knit…blog…count!

The other day at my local grocery store they were having a great “buy one get two free” sale on Edy’s ice cream. I probably could have passed it up except for the fact that they had Girl Scouts Samoa Cookie flavor. OMG, ice cream heaven!

My timing at the store couldn’t have been better, right? Wrong! I just joined up with the lovely Katie from Knits & Grits for a weight loss challenge of sorts.

She was nice enough to set up this great blog Knit…blog…count!  for participants to share their personal weight loss goals, favorite healthy recipes, exercise ideas and to be supportive of each other. We will be counting points using the Weight Watchers system (either at your local WW center or online) and would love for you to join us! It is easy to do – just email Katie (knitsandgrits–at–gmail–dot–com) or myself (forksblog–at–optonline–dot–net) to join. You could then help us with your tips for getting fit and staying that way.

Not sure about it? Well, Weight Watchers is currently having a 7 day free trial period for their online plan. You can read more about it here.

Now I just have to figure out how many points are in a cup of that ice cream…

Orange, Pink & Blue?

It has been a bit slow on the crafting front around here lately. Between getting ready and then going on vacation (which was NICE, by the way) and picking up a few books for a reading challenge I am participating in, I haven’t have much time to pick up the knitting needles. That is until now.

I bought all this brightly colored yarn over a month ago. They  look good enough to eat, don’t you think? Supposedly, while knitting these colors together in a striping pattern is should turn into a really pretty baby blanket. I am a bit intimidated by putting the colors mango and bubble gum pink together, but I figured I would give it a try. I will post more as I go along.

Also, a fellow blogger (who happens to be my sister) has hinted in her not so sublte way how much she wants a felted purse. Guess I’ll have to give that one a shot soon too!
