I’ll admit it, I’m a knitting novice. I can make decent hats, scarves and even felted purses, but I am still learning to make some of the more complicated items, like sweaters. Here’s some pictures of my work-in-progress. Started early last year and then abandoned for other things, I have again picked up the sweater in hopes to get it finished in the near future.
The sweater is from this Debbie Bliss pattern. I am making it for my never met but in the process of adopting daughter. Knitted with the exquisitely soft Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in a light lavender color, I am about half way through.
Below you can see a close up of where I am increasing my stitches to make the hood. I will be meeting my girlfriend Kathy tonight for our weekly knitting get together. I am so lucky to have a friend who is so willing to share her knitting knowledge. If it wasn’t for her gentle encouragement, I probably wouldn’t have attempted this sweater. Another friend of mine, Wendy, will also be with us. She will be picking up knitting needles and yarn for her first ever attempt at knitting. It should be fun.
On another note, I have added a button to my sidebar. I thought it might be fun to participate in Wordless Wednesday. Each Wednesday I will post some of my favorite photos (more than a few of Leah, nature and our two cats).
I love the color of the yarn you’re using. So pretty! This is the year I learn how to knit. Just a couple more months until I can read for pleasure, scrapbook, cook, and learn new things like knitting. You’ll be one of my inspirations!
Congratulations! I can’t wait to see the finished sweater… I hope you don’t have to wait too long to see your little girl in it. I just finished my first sweater that is for me. It is only my second-ever adult-size sweater. I am so proud of myself. I gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I think you will like that when you finish your beautiful sweater. 🙂
What a cute sweater! I LOVE the color yarn you chose! I am still working on the scarf for the Red Scarf Project. I don’t know if I’m just being picky but I think my tension is off, LOL! Your sweater looks fabulous so far! And how cool to knit with friends! I wish I knew someone, anyone, who knits around here 😦
It looks gorgeous! What yarn are you using?
i love that yarn…isn’t it a dream to knit with? you are doing great on the sweater. i can’t wait to see the results!
Beautiful yarn! The sweater is looking great, I can’t wait to see it finished.
Oh, the color is beautiful. Can’t wait to see the finished sweater! Hope to see you next weekend.
I haven’t jumped on the knitting superhighway beyond stockings, scarves and felted bags. This year, I want to add at least one more knitting skill to my repertoire.
Show the sweater when you’re done!!
First off, let me say that I’ve been horribly absent from reading your blog and I am soooo sorry for it! You’ll see me around MUCH more now that I have realized my incredulous error 😉
I am always so impressed with people who can knit, at any level. Being an advanced/expert crocheter, the thought of going from one needle to two scares the bejesus out of me. I’ve actually tried to learn, but I get so easily frustrated, knowing that I could probably have have already finished whatever potholder I was trying to knit by just doing it in crochet instead…lol. It’s like when I was trying to learn the cello after playing the vioin for 5 years – I just couldn’t make it happen. I was too used to the “first way” I learned.
But I do have a knitting kit to teach yourself, and one of these days I WILL learn, even if someone has to die while in the path of my flying knitting needle! lol… I can’t wait to see the finished sweater!
Your stitches are so lovely and even. How nice that you have a knitting “coach”. I wish I had one for sewing. I’m so intimidated every time I sit before my machine.
Looks beautiful so far. What a lovely color!
That sweater is going to be lovely! You’ve picked a beautiful colour.
I know what you mean about longer projects. I find it’s not so much the difficulty, it’s more the keeping going! I always want my stuff to be finished quickly – hurrah for hats, scarves, bags and gloves. Guess I am not blessed with patience 🙂 . So I made it my resolution this year to knit (and complete) some big projects instead.
Hope you’ll post some pics of the sweater when you’re done. I can’t wait to see it. Good luck!
BTW I am soo jealous of your little ‘knitting club’ ;)! You are very lucky.
Great yarn for kids! Keep going… you’re doing great! It will be worth it… and so precious for her as she ages. Wish I would have done a wearable for my boys pre-adoption. They just got acrylic blankies…
The knitting looks beautiful. Thoses small sweaters are great to start on. I’ve done a few, but have been too afraid to start on adult size ones.
One tip I’ve learned – if you’re knittings sleeves and then sewing them on (verses knitting them together with the body) do them at the same time so you get them the same length (I hope that made sense).
Have fun.
PS you may have inspired me to make some of those fingerless gloves.
You are SO NOT A NOVICE! Maybe you’ve never actually completed anything you would consider to be advanced, but your stitches are perfect. They look so awesome! Nice choice of yarn. Very luxurious.
Oh my gosh, I am just about to start that same hoodie! I have some BMFA superwash worsted that I think will work well for it. It will be fun to watch your progress.
Novice or not, that knitting looks perfect. Your tension and the stitch definition makes for some beautiful knitting!
